If I use an application that doesn't use more than one core, does hyperthreading run it like it's two cores even though it's not programed in the app?

Solution
If an application is coded for a single core, then it won't use more than an single core.

Hyper-threading lets another thread run on the same core simultaneously
All correct, though I'm not sure how many demanding single-thread programs even exist.

Just FYI, but HT can boost performance by up to 30% if you can fully utilize the CPU such as encoding with basic HANDBRAKE settings. For example, the i7-3770K would render up to 30% faster though overall it doesn't reduce the time by that exact amount since it's not always fully tasking the program. Probably over 20% total conversion time though.

Most GAMES don't benefit but the upcoming WATCH DOGS is likely to work better on the i7-3770K compared to the i5-3570K (the latter is the former but without HT).
