HDD from DVD Recorder into PC

Hi, I put a SATA HDD into my PC from an old DVD recorder in the hope I would be able to get at the files. I can't, using Renee Undeleter they are there but I can't afford £40 to get at them/see them (Windows 8)! Any suggestions as to how I can access the files, please?

Hi, the files were not deleted. I took the HDD from the DVD player and installed it in the PC. The drive is recognised by the system but shows it is empty. I tried searching for the files but had no luck. I used Renee Undeleter to confirm the files are still on the drive. The program finds them and lists them as .mpg files, however it will cost £40 to get the full version to reinstate the files. Ashampoo cannot find the files!

Without Renee Undeleter I cannot find the simple .mpg files?

Then you probably need to talk to the DVR manufacturer/provider...because if the drive isn't working in the DVR they should be able to walk you through recovering the files to a new drive.

Unless, of course, you're talking about copying files from a working DVR onto your PC hard drive...which, I'm going to guess, is probably going to get a "we don't help with that here at Tom's Hardware".

are you certain that what renee undeleter detects are the files/media on the HDD?

also check the HDD for available space to see how much is left.

because renee undeleter is a recovery applications for deleted files on the storage, it could be just showing you random files to buy the subscription.

It does appear to be showing about the right amount of files and at the size I would expect, it lists them as being on the F: drive, where they should be, however it is the only one of many undeleter type programs that I have tried that has managed to show anything on that drive!

Hi spdragoo, the drive in the DVR was working the output port failed leaving us with some serious pixilation it was out of guarantee so I thought putting it in the PC would be a quick way to get the stuff recorded onto disc, I was very wrong.
I will contact the manufacturer to see if they can help. Thanks
