Can I run a 7770?

Solution

The 12V rail is the rail that runs the CPU (usually) and GPU so you need to have a lot of power on it. I'm not sure this is true in your case since that CPU is old; It might not be running on the 12V rail at all (I'm not sure, I'm not that good with older hardware).

For example, your PSU has 25A on the 12V rail, so it should be able to output 12V*25A=300W.

Since that PSU only has 300W on the 12V rail it...

AMD says it needs minimum 500W supply.

Recommendations are always over the top, you shouldn't be too worried about that.

What is the exact model of your PSU though (better safe than sorry)?

Yeah, AMD overstates the necessary power because it varies from system to system. Everything should work fine as long as your PSU rail has enough amperage. (most likely it will be fine)

Industry practice is to recommend a power supply far in excess of what is actually needed to account for the possibility the user has a trashy PSU and/or an unreasonable number of peripherals. The HD 7770 has a TDP of 85 W. Chances are your entire system with an HD 7770 would top out at 250-300 W or so.

This is the specification of the PSU, I guess it's pretty cheap: http://i.imgur.com/5zDD7MM.png
BTW, can someone explain me all the stuff with 12V rails and amps? I bought this quite back when I had no idea about all these stuff.
Also, what other cards of around same price can I run on this?

P.S: I have a 1920 x 1080 monitor.

Somehow I can check whether CPU runs on 12V rails? Otherwise I may also run a GTX 680 (lol!)

But CPU (Max - 95W) and GPU (Max - 195W) falls under 300W right?

How old is that PSU? It's possible it's not outputting anything close to those numbers...

Also, the rest of your system needs power too.

The PSU is like 1 year old max.
Rest of the system doesn't run on 12V...

Okay. BTW, what would be a good price for a HD 7770 at this date (Used/unused)?

You should do some reading on how PSU quality plays a role in all this... A cheap PSU is not going to output all the power it claims it can output.

And FYI I am not smoking anything.

yes you are smoking something? haha

1. No need to be rude...
2. Is that a question or a statement?

Okay to really solve this one we need to know what 400w Psu he has lol and when he shows us I'm gonna laugh my ass off some more because 9/10 I bet it can run it perfectly fine hahaha

As I said, not all PSUs are the same; It's better to be safe than sorry.

Also, please don't use profanity on this forum.
