Hey guys. Recently I bought old ASUS p4pe2-x motherboard with some components just for fun. I tried it and couldn't get it to post. I examined the motherboard and noticed that i had one burnt transistor (APM2054N PG8CC). Everything else seems to be fine. I want to try switching it and, since I have no experience, it would help me a lot if someone would tell me which model of transistor should I buy for replacment.

Solution
It would probably just sit there, doing nothing. Where's the failed transistor on the board?

Ideally you want the exact same model, though one with very similar characteristics might work.

I'd be happy to help you but I can't find anything for that model number.

Is there any other information you can give me on the transistor? You're going to need to match the specs of teh original, however that's going to be difficult if we can't work out what it is!

First of all, thanks for answering so fast.
I did some searching for this transistor and found this pdf:

Hope it helps.

You'll need to figure out what package size it's in (pages 7-9 of the above spec and a ruler will help).

One thing to note is that when a switching transistor like that blows, they sometimes take out the control IC, which isn't always obvious.

eBay is usually great for buying weird transistors.

What is control IC? And if it died with this transistor, is it even worth repairing? I bought this mobo, with processor, cooler and gpu for about 3 euros :).

That transistor is rather a small package- it's going to be difficult to replace... It might be worth attempting to replace it if you can find one but it's going to be fiddly...

What electronics kit do you have access to?

Replacing it shouldn't be a problem. I think I'll buy new transistor, replace it and see what will happen. But before I can do that, I'm not sure should look for this exact model, or can I replace this transistor with one with similar characteristics? Also, after I replace transistor, if my Control IC is dead, how would my mobo behave after I plug it in?
