Hi all,

So I just build a HTPC and hoping to accomplish watching 3D movies, see below specs. Just want to know if this is doable. I did not get a BR/DVD rom as I am hoping to either stream or download from web.....

SHUTTLE SH67H3 PC Barebone System
Intel I5-2500k
Intel HD 3000 (on board video with Intel CPU)
LG LA7400 60 inch Cinema 3D Smart TV
120 SSD HD, Win 7, 16 gb ram, 4 pairs of 3D passive glasses

Solution

Negative. 3D video playback is not demanding and doesn't involve any special processing (the format doesn't change). The HD 3000 graphics will handle it without a problem. Hook up your onboard GPU to your 3D TV using HDMI, slap on your glasses, press play and enjoy. An upgrade for the GPU would be nice and all, but not needed.

If you want to do 3d, you will need a discrete graphics card or a 2d to 3d converter box.
I wouldn't reccomend the second option, but if your htpc doesnt have room for a gpu you will still be able to do 3d.

Thanks for replying, just trying to understand you last comment. So are you saying that I can still watch 3D movie from this htpc? So like if I buy a 3D video stream from amazon, I can watch this in 3D on my lg 3D tv? Do I still need to have a discrete graphic card?
