My hp pavillion dv6 got a virus that destroyed most everything and now my boot mgr is missing. the com came with win 7 pre installed so i dont have the windows 7 disc. I tried and made a windows 7 repair disc off of my friends computer, and when i used the cd on mine, it said i have no previous image to revert to. So as of now i got a much larger (seperate) cd to burn an image from the same computer. How can i use these cds to fix my computer?

Nobody gets a Windows 7 DVD with a factory-built computer. Instead you get a hidden partition on the hard drive that contains an image of the Windows installation, and there's a utility in Windows to create your own set of Recovery Discs, which I'm guessing you never bothered to make while your laptop was working okay?

Provided the hidden Factory Recovery partition is still intact you should be able to run the Factory Recovery utility during the boot process as follows;

Turn off your laptop.
Turn it back on and be ready to keep pressing F11 at the HP splash screen.
Recovery utility should appear.
Follow the instructions provided on the screen.

If Factory Recovery doesn't work or the recovery data is missing, you will have to...
