Hi, I am looking to upgrade from a gtx 560 superclock 2gb evga card and am stumped with all the millions of options on cards. I'm also in the market for a new monitor since mine went black on me a few weeks ago and it's dead. I have a $300 usd to throw at this.

I've been recommended the r9 270x card for an upgrade, will this be a noticeable upgrade to my current gtx 560? I'm open to AMD or Nvidia, I'm brand agnostic, just want something awesome. I don't experience too much lag on most games. With vsync on i get a steady 60 fps no problem, and in heavy combat with lots and lots going on i drop to about 40 in diablo and about 30 in warcraft. WIthout vsync idle I run about 110 fps, and in combat can drop all the way down to 40 fps in d3 and again 30 in wow.

I'm also looking for a monitor hoping to replace both if the gpu is a worthwhile upgrade, if I'd actually see a difference in performance.

I don't just game though, I also code often and watch movies etc, so from what I've gathered a IPS monitor is the way to go.

I'm fine with maybe waiting and saving up for a new video card and getting a really sweet monitor now if possible too.

I'm currently using a 32" hdtv at 1080p and my previous 22" that died on me was not 1080p ( i can't remember exactly it was 1600's though, widescreen) and it was kind of dark compared to my 32" hdtv, but I really prefer gaming on the monitor and justs using the tv as a 2nd monitor for browsing inbetween game sessions or having browser up while working with coding the dual monitor setup is really handy.

Sorry for the long post, thanks everyone in advance for the advice. I might be able to go a tiny bit higher than $300 usd but somewhere in that range. Looking for the best bang for my buck. thanks all

For a 1080p monitor the 270 should be more than enough. If you plan to do multimonitor gaming or go up to a higher resolution monitor then perhaps a bigger video card would be a good choice.

I was able to get the Asus vs248h-p monitor and a gtx 760 2gb zotac amp! card. Used, but off amazon and can return if need be. If they are in as good of condition as they said they were, they will be decent upgrades. So i'll be happy with them :) Thanks for suggestions.
