I have a 4-year old Compaq Presario CQ5210F that has given me the blue screen of death a couple of times and was wondering if it was worth rebuilding it or recycling it? It has a Pegatron MB, with NVIDIA chipset and an AMD Athlon II X2 215 CPU. It is my day-to-day computer with basic word, internet, and the ocassional Skype/video stream use. Looking to spend under $500. Thanks.

Clean and re paste the heat sink and remove all dust from the internals and it will probably be fine. If that doesnt work buy a new power supply. If that doesnt work re build it with a new board and chip.

It depends you can probably make a new one, thats slightly better for a round $400 however, its cheaper to just clean up the thermal paste first.
However if you did want a suggestion for a decent new computer here's one-
