So I've been having a gawdawful time with the Nvidia drivers for my MSI GTX 780, I ended up having to go with the 332.21 drivers (5 down the list of drivers) because every SINGLE other driver resulted in crashes and BSODs galore, and the error codes for the BSODs were referencing the GPU. Re-installing windows and changing motherboards did not change anything.

I was all psyched to get the GTX 780 6GBx2 for SLI, but this experience combined with a horror story user review on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1QQMGQ54OV9CN/ref=cm_cr_d... , is seriously making me reconsider.

My question is; are the drivers from AMD for the R9 290X rock solid or is it the same story?

My specs:
i7 4770K@4.2Ghz with H80i
2xIntel SSD, HDD
16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM@1800Mhz
MSI GTX 780 Twin Frozr 3GB (not overclocked, left at the settings it came with)
MSI Z87 G45 Motherboard
HX850 PSU

Your problem doesn't really sound driver related, as the vast majority of 780 users don't have this kind of problem. What games were you trying to play? Did you ever consider RMAing the card?

Nvidia's drivers are generally better than AMD's, especially when it comes to multi-GPU driver support. It's odd you had such a hard time with them.

To keep things in perspective, SLI is rarely 100% without issues, driver support is inherently worse, especially with newer titles. Just keep that in mind.

Yeah it sound like bad hardware to me.

Otherwise some people have better results and some have better results with the other

As others have stated, this doesn't seem like it could be a driver issue.

But, to answer your question, no, AMD isn't better. At best it's the about equal in single card configurations, but almost always worse when it comes to multicard setups. AMD's Crossfire is almost always behind/worse than SLI. Not a fanboy here, it's just a fact.

Well if the card was bad I don't understand how it's rock solid with older drivers? Perusing the Nvidia forums I know I'm not the only one with BSODs resulting from drivers, but maybe the only one with an MSI GTX 780, not sure. As to the games it crashed on with drivers newer than 332.21 ; Skyrim, Rome 2 Total War, Arma 3. I had used this card in an older system for a few weeks with the 332.21 drivers and had no issues, only with my new system and drivers newer than 332.21. Thanks for the info on SLI and AMD drivers.

Alright, then just use older drivers?
Its not an enormous difference
