I have a question regarding my pc build. Recently I bought myself a corsair 500 watt power supply on newegg. Originally, it was going to power a 270x, but after talking with my friends, I was able to get a slightly used 280x for the same price. Anyway, I put the components into pc part picker and the estimated wattage is 423 watts, almost 80 less than my power supply provides. However, the manufacturers website says there is a system power supply requirement of 600 watts.(Link to website... http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=... ) My instinct tells me I can get away with the 500 watt power supply, but to stay safe, I wanted other opinons. Also if someone could tell me neweggs return policy I would appreciate it.

1. Although technically you could get your PC to work with the 500watt, i would definitely recommend a higher watt PSU. 7970 + i5 needs at least 600 watt (Corsair CX600 or better). Also, Newegg has a fantastic return policy so dont worry about that.
2. That mainboard is not a good choice - Its pretty cheap, and I would not trust that board with my i5 or 7970. I would recommend saving up a bit and getting a better mainboard. There are some pretty good Z87 boards available for cheap.
3. You have no OS listed (already have windows/linux?)
4. You should get an SSD. Big speed increase, and totally worth the price. 120gb is a good size for windows + some programs (crucial m500 or samsung 840 pro are great drives)

thats all ive got, good luck!

You should be looking for at least a 600W PSU that has at least a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 40 Amps or greater and has at least one 6-pin & one 8-pin PCI-Express power connectors.

You don't want to be running a PSU near its maximum capacity for any length of time because it will shorten the life of the PSU.
