Hello everyone

First of all sorry for my english, it's not my first language.

I'm trying to set up our home network since a few days. I tried a few different combinations, but the wireless from my wireless modem (DIR-645) never worked.

To describe the situation I'm in, I have to say following:
- Internet Modem is downstairs
- Normal Router (Netgear) is downstairs
- A Switch (connected to the router) which connects one PC is downstairs
- A Switch (connected to the router) which connects one PC, one Playstation 4 and the D-Link DIR-645 is upstairs
- The DIR-645 is upstairs

So all the devices which are connected by LAN (2 PCs and PS4) work properly. Even the wireless modem DIR-645 looks like it's working, and connects sometimes to my electronical devices (e.g. Laptop, Smartphone, Tablet....) but I never have internet access on it. My laptop for example shows like 114 Mbit/s, but it shows: IPv4-Comptability: No Internet Access.

As I have listed above what is connected to what, do you might know where my problem is coming from? I have to say that the wireless modem has to be upstairs, and the normal modem has to stay downstairs.

Any changes on the router maybe? I've tried also to change several things on the wireless modem, as it connects and I even get access on it (192.168.0.1 in the web browser). But nothing has worked.

I would be really really really glad if someone can help me.
It's getting annoying as I spent so many hours trying to get it working...

Best regards

Wow. Thanks very much. I always thought it has to be the WAN port, but so I always used the wrong one. I already changed my "second" router to 192.168.0.1 , range 100-199. It all works now fine! Thanks again!

Hello! Thanks for you replies!

I have no internet on any wireless device. But it's connected and shows good connectivity. Still no access to the internet.

It's connected to the port which says "internet", and not to the LAN ports (1-4).

Best regards

Ok, you need to have it pluged into a lan port, not the internet port.

Did you do anything to configure the dir-645, it needs to be setup as an access point for this to work correctly.

To configure a router as an access point:
Set IP: If primary router is say 192.168.0.1 with dhcp range of 192.168.0.100-.254 set accesss point router to 192.168.0.2 so that the first three sets of numbers match, and is outside the dhcp of the primary router (you may need to adjust dhcp server of primary router). Now set subnet to 255.255.255.0, gateway ip to routers ip, and dns to routers IP.
Dissable DHCP server on Access Point
Dissable NAT and SPI firewalls (not all routers have SPI)
Plug ethernet from primary router (or in your case the switch) to LAN port of access point.

You use the WAN port for the ethernet from your modem, anything after that should use the LAN ports.

When you use the WAN port you are seperating the WAN and LAN networks and having the router manage the link between them. By just using the LAN port you are allowing the devices to fuinction as if they are hooked directly into the primary rouer.

Hello everyone, I'm back... unfortunately...

It seems like it worked, but it doesn't as I feel it should..

My wireless router upstairs (DIR-645) is configured as a WAP now, but the wireless is not really working. It always shows full connection, but it sometimes turns to not work (even if it shows it's connected). It works for like 2 minutes, than it doesn't work for 1 minute... and so on...

I also have problems with the connection on the devices (PS4 and PC) which are connected by LAN-cable to the DIR-645. But the weird thing is, if I'm gaming online, it does not have any lags at all... Only e.g. the navigation on the PS4 or the login for some online games on the PC is laggy or doesn't even work.. but as soon as I was able to join a game, it works without any single problem.

Anyone knows what this could be?

Thanks for any advice or help...
Regards
