So my friend is trying to build a computer for $600-800 dollars. He wants good performance. I think that the Radeon r7 260x with an SSD is better than the Radeon r9 280. We have decided on getting a core i5 3570K off of ebay, however, we are willing to change that. We have a z77 motherboard that we can get for $85. We of course have to buy windows. If you have other hardware suggestions, please let me know. If the other hardware is good, let me know if you think he should get the R7 260x with SSD or the R9 280.

More about : radeon 260x overclock ssd radeon 280

The 3570K is good for everything at the moment, except heavy video editing.

The SSD will make windows startup faster, but the 280X will give you significantly higher framerates in games.

So, its really his decision. Windows fast startup, or higher framerates? Don't forget, he can get an SSD later, and migrate his windows to it, whereas he may regret getting a lower end GPU now, just so he can have an SSD

Thats good advice and thanks for the opinion. I would like some other opinions though just to get a feel of all the options. Also, he is open to getting and AMD cpu to.
