First off all, your Internet Service Provider may provide free Anti-Virus, for example Comcast uses Norton; the current version is effective and is no longer a system-hog. One caveat, you may need to install something else first to get it, in their case something called "ConstantGuard," which is a roach-ridden piece of dungware. Fortunately, after installing Norton, you can then uninstall the ConstantGuard.
Otherwise, if you're looking for something free, I recently switched from AVG (which isn't bad) to Avast! (which reviews found to be a little better).
In either case, also install MalwareBytes, which can stop other kinds of malware that virus scanners may miss. It too has a free version.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I have window defence but it doesn't work that great. I'll try malwarebytes to see how it goes. Cause my wife did something now everywhere I go I got ads like crazy and popup once awhile.....which I really dislike.
And I found where its coming from but I can't seem to uninstall or deleted it. Keep saying program in use

Need so.e new software for my PC. I stream and game. While my wife DL a lot of movies and random music just want to make sure my PC is safe and sound. Which program would u guys recommend. Thanks
The best antivirus is a smart user. 99% of all malicious programs piggyback on other programs. Don't install software that you don't trust and you will be fine.

Avast has been for me the best and a longtime only antivirus, second to that is AVG, and Avira... other non-free antivirus like Kaspersky and NOD32 are good options. I never trusted Windows Defender as I never read positive comments on it, only bad ones. For malware, Malwarebytes-Antimalware is one of the best if not the best. You use it for free as a scanner or pay for it and have real-time protection just like any Antivirus... Emisisoft Antimalware is not bad either... I used to scan with it's previous version named A Squared Free to remove what other antimalwares or Antispywares did not detect.
Edit: Following up in Pihnedd's comment: If you absolutely have to install any software, always select the Custom installation (as opposed to default installation) so you can uncheck the options that auto-install other programs of which most are malicious, others are unnecessary and very few are legitimate but still install against your will.
