Does This CPU Still Work?

I recently got a server case from a bin, and it still had a motherboard and CPU in it. The CPU is an Intel Xeon E5-2470v2. It has a fair bit of heat grease on it, but it came with a fairly good cooler. I want to know if it is still working, but I don't really have a computer that I can connect it to. Is there anyway I can see if it still works?

A motherboard came with it (I'm going to assume it's compatible, as it came from a company that has been using it, and I found the CPU and Cooler plugged into it), however I'm not sure if it is working.

I don't have a display or anything else though...

Here's a list of what it came with:

Altos G530 Server Case
Motherboard (Don't know what type yet)
Intel Xeon E5-2470v2
CPU Cooler
Power Supply

That is what I found in the case that I found in the bin. I know the CPU is one of the best on the market, and I want to know if it still works.

Just send it along to me and I will check everything out...;)

Seriously though, you either have to take it to a friend with the gear, take it to a pc shop and see if they can test it out, or buy the gear yourself.

You don't need a monitor if all you are doing is testing the hardware. Even if you had a monitor it wouldn't do you any good because you don't have a HDD with an OS so there is nothing to display. All you have to do is bread box it. Plug the 24 pin PSU connector into the motherboard and short the on/off pins on the motherboard with a screwdriver or key. If everything is working it will turn on and stay on if not then you have to start troubleshooting.

Ok I tried it. It turned on, made three long beeps, and then shut down. I believe the three long beeps are for RAM? Oh and I did a little bit more research, sadly it wasn't an Intel Xeon E5-2470v2. It was an Intel Xeon 3.0 -.- ... So I'm not sure if I want to keep it for what I'll be using it for.

I was looking at the Specs for it yesterday and I realized that XD. I might just have to keep looking. I might sell it though, how much do you think I'll get for the CPU?
