Almost every computer my family owns is a laptop using 802.11g on the 2.4 GHz bands. Unfortunately, as my neighbors move to WiFi, the bandwidth is dropping. I'd like to move all of our laptops to the 5 GHz band. So, I'm looking for a cheap solution that doesn't need to support anything that the built-in hardware can already handle. At home, we'd disable the internal WiFi adapters and use the dongles, elsewhere we'd unplug the dongles and re-enable the internal adapters. (I've tried using Google, but it seems like every hit is for "does not support 5 GHz".) Thanks!

Why get 5GHz only ? There are many adapters that support both networks. Here's one http://www.asus.com/Networking/USBN53/

First, it's around $40. I can find 2.4 G Hz single band dongles for $10, so hopefully a single band for 5 GHz would be $30 or less. Second, it looks to be an inch or more long. I'd prefer something closer to a "nano" form factor, even if it has a slight effect on the signal reception. That said, if there's a nano-style dual band, I'd accept it as a answer.
