replacement for wifi adapter

hi i currently use a usb adapter, netgear wnda3100v2, besides conecting to the router, i use it to stream videos to a DLNA enabled device, i notice that often the adapter gets hot, and gets really slow when streaming, is there any suggestions?

Is this a laptop or a desktop?

If it is a desktop, i would suggest using a powerline adapter over wifi. You can get the 500mbps variety for around $40, the tplink one seems to be pretty decent.

Do u have a suggestion for a modem/router replacement for standard tha t works with Comcast?

I dont like the combo devices, they dont work as well, less features.

For modem I would get a zoom 5341J (make sure it is J model), that works for comcast and has 8 bonded channels to support their max speeds.

For router, if you are not wanting to spend much money, I would get a tp-link wdr3600 if you can utilize dual band or are in a larger home, if not I would just get a netgear wnr3500l.

If you want to spend a little more money I would get an ASUS RT-n66u.

Generally speaking, only newer devices (and not all of those) support the 5Ghz band, so there's little point getting a dual band router if all your clients are 2.4Ghz anyway. You'll just be paying for things you can't use

Doesnt seem like the reviews are that great, only 59% reviews are 4 stars or better.

Edimax is not really a name brand either.

While buying futureproof tech is always a good idea, the AC wireless is only going to be making its way mainstream into devices startig this year and next, wont be till end of 2015 maybee even 2016 when AC is the standard and not the premium. I would still stick to my two suggestions, if your devices are not new and higher end then they most likely wont be dual band capabile (I had to buy better wifi cards for both mine and my wifes laptops from 2013 to make them capabile).
