Hey everyone. I recently bought a new HDD to use as my default drive and I want to turn my old HDD into extra storage. What is the best way to go about transferring all my data over? Would I install Win 7 on the new drive or should I just format it and transfer from there? Also, are there any tools that would help with this process? I've heard of Norton Ghost which is $70 or so. Are there any free data transfer options?
Thanks!

If you simply want to make the new drive the same as the old drive was and later format the old drive for use as a storage drive, use one of the free cloning pgms. I use this one: http://www.todo-backup.com/products/home/free-backup-software.htm

It will make an exact clone of the old drive including the MBR so it will boot. If the new drive is bigger than the old drive, be sure to expand the cloned partition on the new drive to include the extra free space.
