Emachines EL1850 had the cpu Celeron single core which sucked for gaming because it slowed down or even froze on its graphics,Ive bought a socket 775 Intel DUAL CORE Duo 2(3.00ghz) CPU upgrade chip from Ebay as a performance upgrade to replace that worthless Celeron, but need to know how to install the dual core using the CMOS reset procedure because the ACER support website said my machine is too old for support o_O Of course its old, im not spending an additional $300 to buy newer machine! Less than $150 was spent for the 480 Watt power supply which was $30:sol: Ha! and only $25 for an Asus PCIexpress graphics card having 1 gig with both the analog VGA and flatscreen DVI ports. That Intel dualcore Duo 2 (3.00 ghz) was only $25 on Ebay, proves you dont have to spend like $300 for a machine when upgrade the thing yourself. All I want to know is how to set the CMOS to yank out that Celeron crappy CPU to install the better Intel dualcore Duo 2... getting parts on a budget isnt so difficult people, its the proper installation that is the problem, wouldnt want to *fry* all that effort in 1 shot now do we :chaudar: ?

With the new CPU, put it in opposite pins that normal mode is, if normal mode is pins 1-2, then put the jumper on pins 2-3, and you shouldnt need to update your bios until you know that your system is functioning normally.

I dont see a button near the CMOS battery, but there is a 3 pin *jumper switch* having the jumper in the normal operation mode being placed on the far left(closet to the battery) what Im asking is when do I set that CMOS battery jumper when installing my new dual core CPU? I only get 1 shot at this and its got to be done right

On first boot with the new CPU, I would put it in the reset mode, personally. If your new processor fits (on first boot) , it will clear out all the BIOS settings, making it a clean boot for the new processor. Once your machine is up and running, you can return the jumper to normal mode.

On the first boot with new CPU, is the jumper off the pins before turning on the power? And to make things more complicated is that I cant seem to update my BIOS before the new CPU is installed, I dont like the Windows 7 64 bit Home edition for this Emachines model, Ive tried the Acer BIOS 2013 update for this model and it would not accept it
