Hi, I'm building my first PC and I'm stuck between choosing 760 or the 280. In my country they are about the same price. Which would you suggest? The rest of my build are

× Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40-3.80GHz Haswell

× ASRock Z87 Extreme4

× Bitfenix Survivor USB3.0

× Gskill RipjawsX 8GB Dual 1866 CL9

× Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB

× Seasonic S12II 620W 80PLUS Bronze

Can anyone also suggest a good monitor for me? A good one $150~ Give or take at 24" :D

Thanks

Do you overclock?
What games do you play?
What resolution?

In general they trade blows depending on the game. Some key differences to consider :

GTX760 :
Uses a little less power.
Runs a little quieter and cooler if you compare similar coolers(Asus DCII GTX760 and Asus DCII R9 280).
Nvidia has a tiny bit better driver support, but the difference hasn't been significant for me personally since the HD4xxx series.

R9 280 :
Overclocks very well, allowing it to easily match an R9 280x or GTX770.
A little more VRAM, only significant for higher resolutions than 1080p.
A little larger memory bus, VERY little difference, but in some titles this will allow higher AA settings.

Damn, I just noticed that he was talking about the non-X version...

In any case, the 280 is still a better card than the 760.

BIG LOL

Are we talking about GTX 280 or R280... this is quite some difference.
If its GTX 280 vs GTX 760 then the answer is simple... 760 few times faster.

If its R280 vs GTX 760 then its the same performance level... id personally just pick the the GTX 760 since it drains like 30% less power but is a bit slower in general than the R280
