Used IE yesterday, this morning 'stack buffer overrun" when waking PC

So yesterday (last night) I opened and used Internet Explorer for the first time on this PC. I've been using Firefox since day one (almost a year).

Windows 8.1 (never had an issue).

I open IE and close it, this morning when I wake my PC up I have the "Windows needs to restart, we are just collecting some data" and that error of "stack overrun buffer". Now in my Action Center, under maintenance, it says Windows was not shut down properly, Windows had to restart, Windows solution.

So I run malwarebytes each week and Windows runs it's scan once a week. As of right now it hasn't detected any virus.

I was reading that this error can occur with browser add ons and IE can cause this.

What is your opinion? is it just coincidence that I happen to open IE and this morning get a buffer overrun error?

Its hard to say if it was even IE's fault. If you have run scans and the system is okay then I would just assume its a program error. Stack overflows can occur for any reason when a program overwrites the stack. It can be used to exploit access to your system but if your firewall is functional then its unlikely this is the problem and just a poor bit of coding from something your running.

Thanks for responding Dark, It's funny cause (I forgot this) yesterday I also reset Firefox and reinstalled the adblocker, so maybe one of those did it.

I just ran Malwarbytes (updated) and nothing was found.

I ran the Windows maintenance and nothing was found wrong.

The firewall I have is the one inside of Windows.

But you read that this could be a intruder in your system and you start checking stuff, but it appears to be some sort (as you said) of coding error. I did not get a BSOD (as many others who have similar issues get. It was just on waking the pc.
