I have a 3TB Buffalo USB hard drive that was loaned to a friend to back up a Mac. When I now try to use it with 64bit Win 7, it does not appear in My Computer. It does appear as a HD in device manager, but I cannot reformat it from there. How do I get the HD back into operation as a Windows drive?

Its to do with the file system. Its probably in HFS format. You can either give it back to your friend and ask them to change the filesystem back to NTFS or download a converting tool for windows that recognises mac file systems.
