Do you want ultra widescreen? If not go with the Asus.

It means better colour and better viewing angles than normal TN monitors.

It depends on what type of games you are going to be playing. I you play games like Skyrim, or other RPG/MMO games, or do photo editing. then go with IPS. f you play allot of FPS/Racing games (fast action), stick with TN and try to find something with 2ms or less response time, to reduce/eliminate ghosting. there are tons of monitors out there that will get the job done. it all depends on you and what you plan on doing, and what your budget is.

Thanks! That is very helpful. Do you have any monitor suggestions. The types of games are really a mix of all the above (except racing. I dont think I'll being playing alot of those)

I personally love the ASUS VG248QE, it has 144hz refresh, 1ms GTG, low input lag, I think the colors look great, though it is true the color reproduction is not as good as IPS monitors.

I'm sorry but I'm still a bit conflicted on what I need to look for in a monitor. Games I'll be playing vary. Ranging from fps's, mobas, and some RPGs. I'll be doing video editing and using photoshop so I don't know if I still need a monitor with IPS. I'd like to stick to at least under $300

TN monitors have been around a long time, if you have been using one for your editing and have no issues with the colors then i wouldn't get to stuck on that part. I think the colors are just fine, but i only game on my desktop. if you primarily game i would go with the VG248QE, but there are many good monitors out there.

IPS monitors are also good for gaming if you are just a casual player and/or don't care/need the extra edge you will get from a TN panel. Maybe go a computer warehouse and look at the monitors, look at the difference between TN and IPS panels, if you like the way the IPS monitors look then go for it.

Just remember for gaming you want low GTG times and input lag. Always read the reviews.

If it's helps fps's I'd like to play on this would be arma 3, dayz, titanfall. I'd don't think Id play pro more or less casual or with friends. RPGs most likely wild star an watchdogs.

It will not increase or decrease the FPS your GPU is producing, but if your system is running more than 60 FPS in games and you are using a 60hz monitor, your monitor is only displaying 60 of those frames per second, so anything over 60 FPS is just wasted. If you get a higher refresh monitor say 144hz your monitor is able to display up to 144 FPS, so your monitor will be displaying more then twice as many images per second (if your GPU is pushing 144 FPS), so fast movements will be smooth and clear.

I'm still stressing out on what to get. IPS or TN. I guess I'm a casual gamer only really interesting in fps such as ARMA 3 and dayz. BF4 would be rare maybe.

I do like IPS for its color benifeits but no its low refresh rates. And TN for its high refresh rate but not its bad coloring.

Is there a monitor out there has a combination of both?

I would always go for an IPS. The quality is so much better. The input lag etc is usually 10-20ms slower than a TN. Just to put this into perspective there are 1000ms in 1 second. You cannot react that fast.

Input lag is not my main concern. IPS monitors I've looked at get down to about 5ms which is pretty decent. What I'm more concern about is refresh rates. With IPS having 60hz and TN having 144hz. I worried about ghosting and or possible screen tearing

VG248QE I run 3x of them. Great monitors and if you are like me I can't tell the color difference between tn and ips :) .There are some mods out there and good calibration profiles that help the monitors too.

I agree, unless you have a TN and IPS sitting right next to each other I don’t think you are going to notice the color difference. Higher refresh rates will give you a clear/smooth image, I can instantly tell the difference between 60hz and 144hz after playing at 144hz for a few months now, I don’t think I will ever buy a monitor under 120hz from this point on, I am sure you will start seeing IPS monitors at 120hz before to long. For me I would rather have a butter smooth image, nothing will break my immersion like a choppy action scene, or some awesome screen tearing because my monitor can’t keep up.

I am sure you would be happy on IPS or a high refresh TN, you just got to pull the trigger man. Maybe try flipping a coin. :D
