Why did my motherboard die?

Hi guys!

I recently ask for help on why my PC randomly died on me which i was helped to determine the problem was my mobo. I have since replaced the motherboard and the PC appears to be running fine, and apparently nothing else was harmed, which is great.

My question is though, why did my motherboard die after less than 3 months of use without anything else being damaged? and could it happen again to my new mobo?

This is from my last thread "....I check the temps regularly using HWmonitor and they have always been good and I never overclock my machine. About an hour before it died I got a message saying something about a power surge to one of the USB ports on my case, I think I accidentally bent the pin within the port through putting in my mic USB the wrong way! I removed all my devices from each port and moved the pin back and then an hour later it powers down, is this coincidental or the reason I have damaged something? I’ve never had this message before...."

Could this be the reason? and could this kill my new motherboard?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as i am worried that my PC could die again.

Thank you for your time!

Your power supply...

A cheap, fluctuating and non rated psu kills components.

But if you have a good quality psu, then the mobo could be grounded to the case by the stand-off's or just a faulty board with a bad capacitor.

I have a Corsair RM 750 PSU which is still working, could that be the problem? I did plug my mic in the wrong way round accidentally (im an idiot) which bent one of the pins, could this have damaged the mobo?

Hard to tell...

I could also be that, but its an off chance.
Your psu is still in the border of ok.. Having LTEC capacitors, just dont use it for overclock.

I could just be that the mobo was faulty with a bloated capacitor then you shorted it out with that incident.
