i was attemping to over clock my asrock 970 extreme4 with an fx 8320 and i lose my monitor signal after I save the changes why is this

Mobo asrock 970 Extreme4
Processor AMD FX 8320 unlocked black edition
graphic card AMD Radeon R7 200 Series

Solution
You probably lose the signal because the OC is not stable (and might be generating too much heat), making your PC crash and load the default settings after you boot up once again.

ok I under stand that now but I should still be able to get better performance out of it using ASRock Extreme Tuning Utility (AXTU) correct

You could try, but read this guide about temps before you do so: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/faq/id-2122665/measure-temperature-amd-cpus-apus.html

Also, an aftermarket cooler like the Hyper 212 Evo would be a good idea even if you're not overclocking.
