I am looking for a USB hub (port count is inconsequential) which receives no power from the PC. I need to be able to fully switch off power to hub-connected devices at the AC wall outlet to which the hub is connected. I have read loads of hub product descriptions, and have not yet found one that works in this way. Is there a hack I can do to make it work? Can I just clip off the power lead pin on the PC end of the hub cable?

ummm almost every "plug in hub" does not pass power from the computer to its usb ports (the ports on the hub are only powered directly from the wall). if they did that would risk feedback into the computer which would be bad. most likely what your seeing is the power draw that occurs do to the data signals.

I went ahead an bought a powered hub (amazon basics). Connected the hub to a server, and the hub power to an RPS. Then I connected a USB wireless adapter to the hub. Installed the adapter on the server. I then powered the RPS port down, but the device still pulled power from the USB port, which is what I am trying to avoid. Is there such a hub? I want no power ever to be supplied to connected devices over the USB port on the computer.
