dvi-i doesn't work

okay so i have a gtx 750 and it has a dvi-d and a dvi-i and the dvi-i doesn't work i have vga monitor and i use a vga to dvi-i adapter it is not a problem with the monitor. i hope i explained it wel enough.

It could be a poor adapter. Try plugging it in few times. Do you have another laying around? The DVI-I is the only header that contains an analog signal, and the adapter wouldn't fit in the DVI-D header, so there's no chance you have the wrong header.
Is the VGA cable the same one that worked before?

yes the vga cable has worked before and i just bought the adapter so i doubt there is something wrong with that, could it be that the dvi-i port on my graphics card is switched off? and if that is the case, how do i put it back on?

It can't be switched on/off. The analog signal is always on just like the digital signal. That header outputs digital just like the other header. But the 4 pins on the end provide the analog part of the signal for VGA. Either the adapter is bad or the card is. Which GTX 750 did you get?

But to be honest, I never saw a vga adapter that didn't have those pins. It's not a vga adapter w/o them. Can you post a pic of it? Or a link to one like it?
You don't know the make or model of your gfx card? Never mind. Just get yourself the proper DVI to VGA adapter.
...or, does your monitor have a DVI header? Or is it just VGA?

That pic is not a DVI to VGA adapter. It has no way of picking up the analog signal w/o those 4 pins above/below the flat blade. Why do they sell it? I have no idea.

If you get a mini HDMI to VGA adapter CONVERTER, yes. At least technically it should. HDMI is strictly digital, so it needs a converter to convert digital to analog. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=HDMI+to+VGA+Adapter+Converter&N=-1&isNodeId=1
But I cannot vouch for their quality. Never used one.

Your best solution is to get a REAL DVI-I to VGA adapter. The signal is already converted in the card at the DVI_I header.

I can't say until I know the make/model of your GTX 750 Ti. The card should either have a blue VGA port and/or a DVI-I port so you can use a VGA (analog) monitor. If you can't open your case and read the name on the side of the gfx card, take a pic of the end of the card sticking out of the back of the case and post it here.

it is not a gtx 750 ti but a GTX 750, and it doesn't say on the back. can't i find it in nvidia control panel or something?

I said to take a pic of the back so I could see the ports myself.

No, it won't work. That's what I have been trying to tell you. The DVI side of the adapter has no analog (VGA) pins. http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/qa/images/DVI-video-connectors-diagram.jpg Where did you get that?
You need the analog signal for VGA. That adapter is junk. Get one with the 4 pins surrounding the flat blade. Example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814998049&cm_re=VGA_to_DVI_Adapter-_-14-998-049-_-Product

HDMI to VGA are problematic because HDMI does not carry an analog signal; just digital. So the adapters are more expensive due to the fact that they need to have their own D/A converter.

But you shouldn't NEED one of those. Just get a VGA/DVI adapter with the 4 pins surrounding the flat blade like I linked you to. Your whole problem is that the crappy adapter you have does not provide analog. Where can you shp online? I'll point you to the correct adapter. Amazon?
