Chaps,

I am about to install a M500 240 ssd into my system. The mobo is a gigabyte GA P55 us3L rev 2.0.
I intend to do a fresh install of win 7 and have my old hd as storage but keep the current content installed. I know I have to activate AHCI in bios but I have two options to do this,

PCH sata Control mode and
On-board sata/IDE ctrl mode.

So which one do I change or do I change both?

Thanks in advance

Solution
You only need to change Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode to AHCI if your SSD is connected to port GSATA_0 or GSATA_1.
If the SSD is not connected to one of those 2 ports then you can leave the setting at its default value.

If you have the SSD connected to any of the other 6 ports (SATA2_0 thru SATA2_5) then SATA AHCI Mode should be set to AHCI and SATA Port 0-3 Native Mode should be set to Enabled.

You will probably get slightly better performance if you connect the SSD to the 1st SATA port (SATA2_0).

Thanks, so if I use the sata2 slot what option do I change to achi? Pch ctrl mode or the onboard controller mode?

Should the old HDd be plugged into the same group of slots?
