Issue with Booting System

For some reason, my computer won't boot up after I had a little bit of smoke come from the desktop. I immediately did two replacements: PSU with a new Corsair, and the CPU itself with the same chip (Q9650). Apparently it was not either of those since they are new. I can't find a single burn capacitor on the motherboard. What on earth could it be??????

I see that the mobo is getting powered, and when I hit the power button, the system powers up for a split second, and then cuts out (the fan starts spinning but then stops).

Any ideas? Any other essential component I may need to replace? Again, I saw smoke come out of the computer weeks ago when I was doing the disk array and did a restart. Nothing on the motherboard suggests burns otherwise. Really frustrating!

Solution
Well since you replaced the PSU and CPU the only other culprits that would stop a boot like that are the mobo/ram and possibly the GPU (gpu might have fried itself and is drawing to much power somehow?) at any rate if you have a dedicated GPU then take it out and try that. Also try it with just one stick of ram in various slots and see if that helps.

Mouse, thank you very much. I pulled out the sticks and did testing. No boot. I'm going to run to Best Buy now to see if it's the GPU. I did sniff inside the GPU to see if I smelt any burns and I couldn't make out if it was in fact burnt. This is my only hope.

Update: I bought a new EVGA video card and still not booting. Tried it in different slots just to make sure.

So does that mean it's the board? I've been using the flashlight up and down the mobo itself and cannot see any burns.

Then its very likely the board. Pretty sure best buy has a decent return policy. See any leaking/bulging capacitors?

I wouldn't know what a leaking/mutated capacitor looks like. I'm assuming now that smoke like that can definitely be caused by the mobo. I had a LanParty board which was very nice for running a solid 5 or more years. I just bought a used GigaByte mobo that still supports 16 memory and the lga 775 socket.

It's gonna be fun being Home Improvement again and transferring all these peripherals to the new board. Geeez! Been without a solid system for 2 weeks and I feel like I'm in the dark ages. It's like almost worth buying a laptop or another system in case your main system goes down.
