Strictly speaking for gaming purposes only which one would i be better off buying? In my current build I have 2 R9 280x's in crossfire, would the added power of the 4770k be able to handle crossfire better or am I better off saving the ~$100 and going with the 4670k?

The i7 might offer better performance in future titles, but I doubt it. As it stands, the performance difference between the i5 and the i7 as far gaming is concerned is minimal at best. You're looking at like <5 FPS difference in every title on the market today.

Might as well save the money, buy a really nice cooler for $100 and get more performance than if you spent it all on stock i7.

I agree with Don. Maybe in the far future it would have performance advantage. As of now and the near future, games just don't need the CPU power the i7 4770k has. Get the i5 4670k, get a cooler, OC a little, and your good to go for a few years.

P.S. The i5 4670k won't bottle neck the 280x Crossfire just so you know.
