Hello,
I have a MSI 7950 graphics card. TV shows and mobvies via HDMI I get dolby dts master/dts/dd via my surround sound receiver. When I play any game, I only get 2 channel sound. Does the 7950 not have the capability to do surround in games? I have the latest drivers and this has been for the life of the card.

Thanks

This is normal behavior that you are experiencing. Standard digital audio is only stereo. For more than that you need to encode more channels into the streams which are then decoded at the output end of the audio setup.

The reason your TV shows and movies are coming through with Dolby or any other surround format is because they are already pre-encoded in that format, when they are put on disc, broadcast, or however you happen to be watching them.

Your games would need to encode their audio streams in real-time for you to have surround from them. The alternative that computer users have been using for years would be DTS Connect and DDL (Dolby Digital Live) for real-time encoding of audio streams. Once these are enabled, any game with...

Once these are enabled, any game with surround will automatically have DTS or Dolby encoding, when they output in surround. Without, you will be limited to the game either encoding to a surround format for you, or simple stereo.
