First time building a PC and would like some help and comments on my chosen hardware.

Hi, this is my first time posting on this forum and my first time building a computer from scratch and I would like some feedback on my choices as far as hardware goes. If something isn't compatible then please let me know, I'm not super tech savvy and I may have overlooked small things, but that's why I'm here.

So I'm a constant gamer, I use my PC for gaming, general computing, videos and other things.

Below is a list of all the hardware I wish to purchase for my new PC and I wanted to check with experienced people before I drop a bunch of money, I would like spend no more than $1900

CPU: Intel I7-4770k
Motherboard: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming
Memory: Corsair Pro Vengeance 16 GB DDR3-1600
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 770 2 GB superclocked or 780 2 GB superclocked (the one I choose depends on my total price at checkout)
Power: Corsair CX series modular 850W
Cooling: Corsair Hydro Series H100i Dual 120mm Fan or Noctua NH-0145
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Zx(I may use the built in sound from my motherboard.)
Case: NZXT Phantom 410 Mid tower
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black, 1 TB, SATA III, 7200 RPM, 64 MB Cache
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro
I'm thinking LG and I definitely want it to be blu-ray.

What is the best SSD for a desktop? I want no more than 250 GB just cause any more than that and its a bit out of my price range.

Any comments or concerns you may have with this would be greatly appreciated, Thank you

Are you planning on doing any video editing or photoshop? If not then you could go with an i5 and 8gb ram. The performance difference between a i7 and i5 for gaming is around 5 fps. No games out are taking advantage of the i7's hyperthreading and most games are not using more than 6gb ram at this time.

Also, the corsair cx are not great power supplies, they use chinese capacitors that have a higher failure rate at heavy loads. Stick to a XFX/Seasonic PSU or if you really trust corsair, get an AX/TX/HX series power supply since those are really good quality.

The sound card is not needed unless you have very specific sound needs (for recording and such or if you are a huge audiophile then you could benefit from a really good sound...

Yeah I think i'm going to drop to the GTX 770 superclocked to save $150 and put that into a 250 GB Samsung 840 Evo. Also i decided on a different motherboard, a Gigabyte ATX 1150. Thanks for the response.

+1 for the Samsung Evo SSDs

Yeah i'm thinking about the i5-4670k as well, but I want to start going to school for computers so I want to have minimal upgrades to do when I may or may not have the money. Also I want to have as much stuff work for years to come as possible so if I can get 16 GB ram and be set then a while than that's what i'd rather have. I will look into other PSU's as well.

ASUS Sabertooth Z87

I decided against the MSI Z87-G45 gaming because I read some reviews saying that the support wasn't the best. Also I know the sabertooth is probably not the best choice just because of the price but I wanted to include it none the less. I want SLI because at some point I would like to do dual 770s, I would also like UEFI.

That Asus sabertooth looks nice (I am assuming you are looking at the mark2 version for around $180) but since it is brand new there are not reviews to look at potential problems. Otherwise either of the -A motherboards are good (z97 if you want the newer one).

If you want a really powerful overclocking motherboard (for cheapish) you can take a look at the Asrock Extreme 4 which has a 12 phase VRM design (as opposed to the 8+2 phase vrm design of the other mobos you are considering), it is one of the most feature packed mobos for the price.

Whichever motheboard you decide to grab, make sure its a Z97 board, it offers upgradability path in the future, unlike Z87. Check out Asus Maximus VII Hero (Z97) a bit pricey, though an Asus Z97-A will work just fine and you'll be able to overclock the cpu just fine.

I'm really liking that ASRock Extreme 4 and for the price its about the same as the others, also I was looking at the $260 mark 1 Z97(not Z87, my bad). however I will take a look at the mark 2 and I decided to scrap the sabertooth Z97 mark 1 because the price is a little much.

Thank you for the advice I will look for Z97's, I checked out the Asus Maximus VII hero, pretty sweet, but I think I will go with either ASUS Z97-A or ASRock Extreme 4 once I've done a little more research on the reviews, Pro's, Con's, etc...
