Well, you have a few options with that budget

Get your fast, high refresh rate monitors like all the monitors mentioned so far.
Get a high resolution 1440p IPS panel (IPS has better colour and viewing angles than the typical TN panel).
Secret option number three is to get yourself a couple of monitors and run them in an Eyefinity/Surround setup.

The 120hz+ options will all look very smooth while gaming provided your GPU can spit out the frames fast enough. The high resolution display will let you see more of the game and display it in better colours, while also having a positive effect to productivity simply because of the extra screen real estate.
Or if you go with triple screens, you have that surround gaming experience and a lot of...
