I have an HAF 922 that i put the guts of my old (2008) gateway pc into.

right now I have:
the very first intel i7 920
gtx-670 4gb
12gb corsair dominator 1600mhz ddr3
a 750gb 7500rpm hard drive
500w psu (which i want to replace)
gateway mobo (which i want to replace)

looking for the best way to upgrade my pc within a 700 dollar price range, and while im no expert it seems like mobo+cpu+psu might be the best way to proceed at this moment. I appreciate any thoughts and suggestions.

If you are happy with your GPUs performance you could go with something like this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U14S 55.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($55.48 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: ASRock Fatal1ty Z87 Killer ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($124.02 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($79.99 @ Micro Center)

something like an ASUS m5a99fx mobo. ($130ish)
an FX8320 or 8350 CPU ($150/$180)
an 800watt power supply. ($100ish)
another 670 4gb from ebay ($200ish?)

a 120gb SSD ($60)

reuse your hard drive

-assuming you have 6x2gb ram setup.

you can re-use 4 of those... 4x2gb = 8gb. 8 is all you need for gaming.

You could spend a bit more on the motherboard if you wanted but the Asrock Fatality Killer is a really good one for it's price. Threw a SSD in there for faster boot up of windows and applications
