A few Q's about GPUs and Monitors

Alright, so I have a few questions for you guys regarding monitors and upgrading my GPU(maybe, not sure if I need to).

The deal is, I have the GTX 670(2GB GDDR5) right now, and the Samsung SA700D monitor right now, and I want to add a 2nd monitor.

So firstly, if I want to run another display at 1080p and 120Hz+ - do I need a better GPU if I want to keep running games smoothly on high graphics?

And if I do need to upgrade - I am debating between the GTX 780Ti ROG Matrix Platinum and the EVGA GeForce GTX 780 6GB SC. Which one should I choose? Or should I wait for the GTX800 Series and only then upgrade my GPU?

Secondly, regarding a monitor. I need a 1080p 120Hz+ GLOSSY monitor that's preferably 23", but if there's a really good 24" one I'll compromise(this is because I would prefer if both monitors are the same size). Also the screen HAS to be GLOSSY. So should I get another Samsung SA700D monitor, or a different one?

Thanks in advance for answering.

The normal path with graphics card is first you buy the best card you can afford. Then later, you buy a second one when they are cheaper and enjoy nearly twice the performance at minimal extra cost.

I took a look and 670's are no longer available commonly new. You would probably have to buy a used one which would be very cheap. This would be my first recommendation for with that 120 Hz display, you really need a lot of both CPU and GPU power to get that kind of frame rate with a decent amount of eye candy. I would to this and next year, when the new graphics cards come out you could consider a new one. They should be both faster and much lower in power.

I wouldn't suggest trading in your 670 for a 780ti now for the cost would be much...

No, you won't need a new GPU to run a second 120Hz monitor. I believe your GPU has two Dual Link DVI-D ports, so you shouldn't have any problems. Just make sure to confirm that BOTH of your DVI ports are Dual Link DVI-D.

The ASUS VG248QE has a glossy bezel, and a matte screen. The stand is also very high quality (also glossy). It goes up to 144Hz and it is a gaming monitor, so if you play any FPS games this monitor will be even better than the Samsung. It has low latency and 1ms response time. I have one myself and I love it.

Can I use the HDMI + Displayport instead of 2 DVIs? I really don't like DVIs. Also, by glossy I meant the screen.

I intend to sell the 670 when I upgrade, so the cost isn't much of an issue.

As you can see from that page, two 670's would give you about 50 fps while the single 780ti would give only 44 fps. The two 670's are about 20% faster.

Well, seeing as I do not plan on running games on both screens(one screen for game one for web/skype/etc) I don't really think I would need to upgrade my GPU. What I do need tho are suggestions for a new monitor.

Why do you not like DVI? It's better than HDMI (more bandwidth), just doesn't transfer audio.

Also, yes, you have to use DVI or DisplayPort. HDMI 1.4 does not support 120Hz @1080p. HDMI 2.0 will, but those GPU's are not available yet.

???

Sorry.

What are you sorry for? Did I come off a bit sarcastic/aggressive?

All is good. I'm just thinking that it does no good to have a 120Hz monitor if you can only feed it 40 odd frames per second. You need really fast graphics to drive it with well above 60Hz to be better. No prob.

Alright, thanks! Now about a monitor, can you help recommend me a good 120/144Hz(I heard that's a thing?) monitor with a glossy screen(!)?

The colors are way more vibrant and I don't have a window behind me so the glare isn't that bad. Ever since I got an Alienware laptop I can't stand matte screens.

Are you sure you are not confusing the quality of the display panel with the screens finish?

Well, I checked and I have one DVI-I connector and one DVI-D connector in my GPU, So there's that, and about the monitor - I'm not sure if I should get a matte one since I already have a glossy one and it just seems like that would end up being kind of weird on my eyes.
