I would have one custom built to your specifications.

CLEVO is a large Taiwanese computer company specializing in laptops. While the Clevo brand name is perhaps not widely known, their products are re-branded and sold by known boutique brand OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers)… notably Sager, VoodooPC, Falcon Northwest, Eurocom, etc. They are also considered (by whoever knows about notebooks) to design and manufacturer the best of the best notebooks in terms of superior build quality and innovative designs.

I wouldn't consider Dell or anything else on the shelves at Walmart. To my mind, there are no "good" options along that route.

Asus and MSI are good sources, Clevo is a step up as it lets you customize the build to your specs. It will require some work on your part as you haven't mentioned what the laptop will be used for nor what features are important to you so we're kinda blind.

Define good. Good for e-mail and web browsing ? good for casual gaming ? good for hi level gaming ? Good for school ? Good for CAD and desktop publishing ? Good as in long battery life ? Good as in light and highly portable ?

If ya want better answers you need to put a bit more detail into the question. All you indicated was that you wanted 4th generation CPU and your budget, the LPC digital site does offer options meeting those criteria. Did you examine the various options on the LPC Digital site ?

Again, I have bought maybe 12-13 laptops since 2006....every one of them has been a Clevo, custom built to my specifications. Alienware made a name for itself with its cute logo and great performance and they were all Clevo laptops until Dell bought the Alienware brand.

1st Choice.... Clevo from local distributor
2nd Choice .... Asus or MSI

Gaming means more power more weight and less battery life .... so you will have to figure a compromise between how heavy and powerful versus how light and portable.

My oldest son took one of these to school w/ a Seagate SSHD

2nd oldest went with a desktop for gaming and MacbookPro for the portability
