I want to use my headset for my games, and my speakers for music and basically everything else. I have the headset hooked up to the onboard optical on an msi board, runs realtek drivers, and the speakers are the hooked up to the front 3.5mm jack of the case. No sound card right now and im on windows 7

then you don't want them simultaneous, you want them to be able to switch back and worth between two devices and there are a ton of "windows audio switcher" little apps out there. Google it. It just means switching before you play a game.

If you wanted music out of your soundcard and the headphones at the same thing, that wouldn't happen using optical and 3.5mm, but really you want to be able to switch.
