Hello. I own dell optiplex 755 SFF computer and I decided to do some upgrades. First I tried changing the CPU to core 2 duo 8400 which is supported by the lga 775 P052 motherboard, but when I booted it, it said that it is not supported.

Later on I bought hd 6670 radeon graphic card, only to find out it couldn't be recognized by the motherboard.

Could someone give me some possible answer about what is going on? Is it because DELL prevented the motherboard from using any other than default hardware?

Solution
Possible, I guess. Can you enter BIOS and see if it is required to disable the on-board video before the PCIe x16 slot is recognized? Some older Dells from that era used to require manual switching of the gfx system from integrated to discrete.

The problem with the CPU may be that you need to update your BIOS before the board will recognize the newer processor. What is the old processor?

The gfx card is a little more troubling. I presume you tried it with the original processor back in the CPU socket? Did you remember to move your monitor's cable from the MB video to the new card? Is the card firmly in the slot?

Yes I used the old CPU.

What is even more weird is that I found the same computer at work in the storage so I decided to plug in the video card and see what is gonna happen. What is surprising is it recognized the video card. It is the same model, same motherboard, same CPU.

My last guess is the PCIe slot is damaged?

Ok it is getting even more weird. Originaly there was an 80GB HDD. I switched it to 500gb a while back. The other PC still had the 80GB HDD... the one that detected the GPU.

Now the strange thing is that when I removed the 500Gb HDD and added back the original 80GB one it suddenly worked.

I do not understand this.

Ok I will try to fill you in. I think I was unclear.

Uh when I start the computer and start installing the AMD drivers on the 500gb HDD I get BSOD during the first stage of the installation which is "detecting video card" or something like that.

When I swap to the 80GB one, the installation is successful. I simply have no idea why is the cause behind this.

And screw the CPU. It is because I need to update my bios. I solved that one.

EDIT:

I have got the dump file with the error codes:

EDIT 2: Okay. I tried to reinstall the working HDD (80GB One) with the windows CD I used on the 500gb one and guess what: Blue Screen.

The problem is most likely in the windows version itself. I will honestly say that I am not using a legal version and I am about to get a different one.

I will post the results here. I am hoping it might work.
