Just built an Asus Z87 Pro, and the SM bus controller driver did not install even after downloading & installing latest MEI chipset drivers from Asus' site. Asus Tek are stumped - anyone out there have any suggestions? I believe this problem is preventing my Bluetooth from operating even though the drivers are installed; I took screen shots of Device Mg'r. to illustrate...available upon request.

Not sure if it was you, but someone suggested to another with the same problem to install the Intel chipset drivers from the Asus Z87 Pro install DVD; I just did that, & now the SM Bus Controller is no longer appearing under "other devices" in Device Mg'r. - not sure if this is fixed or not; your opinion? Also, I allowed Intel to scan my MoBo for driver updates, & they recommended a new Graphics Driver & another driver - I downloaded them, but haven't tried to install yet - think I can safely run those installs on my Asus MoBo?

I have downloaded the Intel IMEI that you steered me to, in case I need it. Maybe or maybe not, but I did recommend someone to install the intel chipset driver for resolve the SM bus controller problem, like I said the sm bus controller driver come with the intel chipset driver, you have to install the intel chipset driver either from intel website ( because it comes with the newer version) or from dvd came with the MB ( but it is the older version).
Yes, the IMEI does scan for you which driver you need. Because you did install the driver from dvd, that why the SM bus controller is no longer appearing under "other devices" in Device Mg'r. It should be fine, but if you still have problem that maybe it is the older version, then you may need get the newer version from intel website.

Well, I still can't get bluetooth to work, & HDMI has no audio, so I have to keep working on this until I resolve those issues. I'm going to try the IMEI that you recommended; it has a date of 3/11/2014, so it doesn't get much newer than that...will let you know how that worked...

I tried all of the above, & there are no compatibility issues with my up-to-date Windows 8.1.1 I am going to try to post screen shots of device mg'r., so you can get a clearer view of my issues. I looked you up, cin19, and it looks like you are one of the most qualified & knowlegeable helpers on these forums - I appreciate your efforts, regardless of the outcome! :)

I usually download all drivers from manufacturer's site.. for Intel Chipset (INF), I usually go to intel.com..

but for SM Bus controller issue.. this can only be fixed if you install chipset from provided DVD drivers. Just install the latest chipset afterward.
