So I'm wanting to upgrade to at least 8gb of ram from 4gb. My motherboard is an MSI P67A - G45 v2 and I currently have Ripjaws ddr3 1600 2x2 gb ram sticks. I want to get a 4 gb card of the same brand and speed but I hear having 3 cards may not work. I don't mind loosing the extra speed from dual band but it would be unfortunate if it didn't work and I would be forced to order the other 4gb card immediately. The reason why I don't want to get 2x4 now is because im low on cash at the moment. I also don't want to get another 2x2 as that would be too limiting. Is is worht ordering the 4gb card now?

Solution
it will work since your mobo is dual-channel and other channel work independently from other so you can have one channel 2x2gb and other 1x4gb or 2x4gb it will work. just dont mix sizes in the same channel (the same color sockets).
