I've recently been having an issue when playing certain games on my PC. I will play the game of a few minutes, before the screen switches to a bunch of vertical lines. Then the video driver will either recover with a message saying that the driver stopped unexpectedly, or I will have to force restart my PC.
I have an AMD Radeon R9 280X and a Corsair 750W PSU. The card is factory overclocked (it's the Gigabyte Windforce edition) and is about 5 month's old now. The problem has been going for about 2 weeks now, and started immediately after a windows update.
I don't get the issue in some games.
Games that have the issue:
Borderlands 2
Tomb Raider (2013)
Fistful of Frags (a Source Mod)
Games that do not have the issue:
Awesomenauts
Transistor
Hearthstone
I also ran a test with FurMark and had no issues, nor do I get any issues with web surfing or video playback.
Update: The issue seems to be fixed. I tried the usual updating drivers, checking DirectX installation, underclocking the card from the factory overclock back to the stock speed, none of which worked. Eventually I found I had some old drivers from when I used my Intel HD Graphics, which I removed using driver sweeper. So far, this seems to have fixed the issue but I will update if the problem returns.
