Hello. First time builder here looking tos tart building in a few weeks. I've been looking at a few motherboards and have heard some good reviews about MSI's gaming series (looking at a z97 chipset).

I've got my eyes set on this: http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/motherboards/intelsocket1150/z97chipset/z97gaming5.html and was wondering if anyone has any experience with it (being a new board with not many reviews online). There's also a 20% cash back till 31st May, so I'll save some money.

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/ftahir192/saved/ That's my current build.

I'll be gaming, and programming/web designing and some databasing.

Any ideas on whether this is a good move?

Also - what is Novatech like? Never bought from them - Amazon don't have this in stock for a few months so I won't be able to take advantage of the 20% cashback. Scan have this in stock but I've heard horror stories from them when returning etc. Is novatech good to deal with?

Cheers.

This is a great board. I have the Z87 version and it is amazing at OCing. I was also considering the board you are looking at. It is a good quality board with a lot of great new features that come standard with Z97 boards. It also has support for Devils canyon so you will be able to upgrade pretty easily.

Thanks for the reply. I am contemplating whether getting a 4670k or waiting for the 4690k. But speculations are that June is only a paper release with retail stock coming in as late as September, so not sure if I want to wait.

Get a 4670K, the Haswell refresh has not that much difference. Also, you'll save a few $$$ too.

I think he's referring to the MSI GD65 gaming. Afaik the GD65 and the Gaming 5 are very similar in comparison, and I'm saving 20% on the Gaming 5 if I go for it (offer stands for that board only).
