Hello, basically my old computer is in its final death throws, so I need to get a new one. Problem is, I've only really dealt with prebuilts before so I have no idea what I'm doing or what all I should be getting. I'm looking to build a decent gaming PC that will last me for a couple of years, and preferably without having to use low graphic settings. I'm working with a budget of 1,500 dollars and under. Unless there are compatibility issues I don't know about, I should at least be able to save my monitor, but I'll probably have to get everything else. Also, any tips for when I'm actually building it? Any tools I should have on hand other than a screw driver? Any help is appreciated.

You may also be able to save your HDD if it is fairly recent (SATA). Everything else you should buy new.

Its about 4-6 years old, and googling it says its a Western Digital WD Blue WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive. Not sure if thats still good, but as long as it isn't whats wrong with my current computer I have no problem keeping it.

Looks like a solid HDD, the only concern you might have is if it's too small for you, but if it isn't, you can save $60 or so from your build if you don't have to buy a HDD.

You'll still have to get a new version of Windows, though.

I can still get Windows 7 right? I'd rather not have to upgrade to 8. my friends tell me its horrible.

Ah, it looks like I posted this in the wrong section at first, and with not enough information. I'm sorry, I'm new to this and I saw similar threads in the opinions section so I thought they went there. As for more information, I'm probably keeping my monitor, its resolutions is 1920x1080, my locations is Mckees Rocks Pennsylvania USA, my computer is used for gaming, internet and watching movies, the games i tend to play the most are MMOs and steam games, skyrim, dishonored, stuff like that, and I have no prefered websites or brands.

Again, sorry for the hassle.
