Im planning to get a 4770k and i want to overclock it to 4.5ghz. If i get the corsair h80i what temps can i expect when playing battlefield 4? this is for a new build btw. The parts will be a NZXT phantom 410 case, a corsair cx 600 watt psu, 8gb of 1600mhz ram from corsair, obviously a 4770k on a gigabyte z87 mobo with a gtx 750ti sc, and the case will be using a few SP120 fans quiet edition.
EDIT: i might go with the 4670k instead. and still overclock it a good amount.

I think the more pressing issue is that you're allocating far too much of your budget on the CPU, and too little on the GPU.

im not going to want ultra graphics and being able to play on 1080p. im going to do a lot of video editing with sony vegas and im gonna do some stuff in photoshop. mainly graphics design. ill get a better gpu later but im not gonna shell out 300 on a gpu when the 800 series is coming out soon.

Good to know.

I couldn't tell you what temps you'd get at 4.5GHz, depends on the chip and it's hard to find reviews that demonstrate a similar situation.

I would however get a Z97 motherboard (will support Broadwell upon release in case you're interested) and if you can, get a 4790k which is intended to release on June 2nd. If this is true, then it would be a far better choice than the 4770k - it turbos to 4.4GHz at stock, so you're guaranteed a healthy performance boost over the 4770k. Moreover, it has improved TIM to reduce heat, which will help you reach your 4.5GHz goal.

Agree with JOOK-D entirely. Suggest you research the 750 on the graphics hierarchy charts on this site. Low power use and cool but not really a gaming card. It doesn't matter what you overclock your CPU to when your GPU is holding back your gaming experience so much. I assume this rig is mainly for gaming as you're asking about BF4 temps. If you do go for a max haswell overclock, I would recommend you delid the CPU. This is a very easy process but I personally don't like the razor blade option. Try one of the vice methods. Much less likely to cause damage in my view. I just put one edge of the board against one side of the vice, the edge of the heat spreader against the other and heated with a hair dryer/heat gun (on low heat) while gradually tightening the vice. Eventually the lid just pops off. The boards are much more robust than you'd imagine. Check out vice/hairdryer haswell delid videos. I got a massive (approx 20 C), free temp drop for very little effort, freeing up much greater overclocking potential. No warranty though!
i7 4770k Delid and Cleaning Process
I have created a quick video that shows how to properly delid and clean i7 4770k in about 15 minutes with a razor blade. The benefit of this is greatly reduced core temperatures at idle and under load so very much worth it for overclocking. You... See full content

id rather not delid or anything. i might just wait for the 800 series cards to comeout so the price of the 700 series cards will go down a little. and i might as well get a different mobo to support broadwell. is there any clue as to the price of those cpu's? i dont wanna go over $350 for one.

To partly answer you original question, after delidding my 4770k and using the larger H110 cooler, I get 8 deg C over ambient temp at idle and just creep into the 50s C range running Prime95 (more demand on CPU than any game). That gives me a big buffer for further overclocking before hitting the max 85 deg C that I'd never exceed. I should point out that I'm only overclocked to 4.2 atm; waiting to complete my custom water-cooling loop before pushing speeds.
Xfire 290x GPUs are coping just fine in any game ;-)
By the way, I'm using a LG 34UM95 ultra wide monitor that's just perfect for editing. Bloody expensive, but there are much cheaper widescreen options that you might want to consider if you are mainly editing.

im just gonna use a standard 1080p asus monitor. i really dont wanna delid since its kind of my first build.

Yep, sorry, I seem to be one step behind with each reply! Maybe to consider in the future if you do go with Haswell. Good luck anyway.
