I currently have an NVidia PNY gtx 760 2gb, and I want to upgrade to an Asus or EVGA gtx 780 3gb.

My main concern is, how future-proof is the 780? how long will it be from exactly today, until I cant play games at max settings anymore? Would the 780ti be a better option? Thanks.

Solution
Yes, the 780 Ti would be the better option because no one knows what game designers and engine designers are going to develop in 3 years.
If your MB allows for it, 760 SLI is also an option. That would allow for faster framerates than a single 780 Ti. But a single 780 Ti now would also allow for adding one later.
