specs
motherboard: ASUS M3A78-CM
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.20 GHz
Ram: 4 gigs (2 2gig sticks) DDR2 400MHz (what cpu-Z says)
GPU: AMD Radeon 6800 series
a spare case that fits ATX size MOBO

My question is, gaming would buying a new Motherboard that supports my prossesor and DDR3 ram to improve my performance be worth it, or should i just spend more money to buy faster DDR2?

the MOBO i had in mind was the ASUS M5A97 with 2 4gig sticks of 1600 mhz ram

Solution
Yes, Yes it would. Having 4 gigs of ram is a minimum for most game now a days. So 8 gigs is the perfect amount. DDR3 will help in games and allow better overclocking if you choose to.
