I ordered a raidmax thunder v2 735w pus from newegg. I took it out of its box since all i have right now is the mobo, processor, and this psu. Im buying part by part. I bough this psu for only $65 from newegg because it was on sale. When i took it out of its box I just wanted to see how the fan and the lights look......I plugged it in and I also plugged in a fan to the psu...I pressed the on switch...Nothing... I pressed it back and forth...nothing. I was wondering and hoping that maybe this is a safety feature and its not defective? Also i unplugged it and replugged evrything in all the way and still nothing...Is this a safety feature that it wont turn on just with one fan connected to it?...or do i have a defective product? :( Help pls new to pc building

Solution
Raidmax does make really shoddy PSUs, but your problem was that you didn't have it hooked to a motherboard. When you flip the switch on the back of the PSU you just allow energy to flow into the PSU, you don't actually turn the PSU on, to do that you have to short the start signal to ground as shown in this video

LMAO I think im gonna return it

+1 on buying a better quality psu.
Any psu can fail, but a good quality unit will have protective circuits so it can't damage anything else.

The psu will not turn on without being plugged into a motherboard or a psu tester.
That is normal.
One can manually short some of the leads to do the job, but it really does not tell you much.

Raidmax name is quite well known as the brand power supply unit assembly in the PC world . Raidmax fame fame unfortunately not because the quality is pretty good stuff , but rather the opposite . Some cases Raidmax products that explode when assembled PC run ever get into some electronic media . Reviews and testimonials from users more negatives than positives . Raidmax does offer cheap prices , but with the incident , assembling experts to incorporate the brand 's low-end category .

Found this on another forum.
