I am looking at a bunch of ebay search results right now and I am noticing that the DDR2 server RAM is actually way cheaper vs non-ECC DDR2 desktop RAM of the same speed. For example, 2x 4GB non-ECC (667) is $24 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/8GB-4x-2GB-PC2-5300F-DDR2-FB-DIMM-Dell-Precision-490-690-T5400-T7400-Memory-/231214302111?pt=US_Memory_RAM_&hash=item35d572439f) while 2x 4GB non-ECC (also 667) is $71 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-8GB-4X2GB-PC2-5300-DDR2-667-NON-ECC-240pin-DIMM-Desktop-Memory-/161238468796?pt=US_Memory_RAM_&hash=item258a8fc8bc). I am wondering if the ECC server RAM would work in a desktop. My motherboard is the Intel DQ965GF. I don't want to order the wrong parts. I've read that it would either not work at all or it will work but the ECC feature will simply be disabled. If it is the latter, then it would make financial sense to just buy the server RAM. In the ECC listing, it even says that it can't be used in desktops and not to buy it because it is cheap. Is that 100% true for all motherboards? TY.
