MSI R9 280 $200 vs Asus R9 280x $299. Is the 100 bucks worth it in performance ??

Replacing my dying 4870 512mb from Visiontek.

Cpu: 2600k
GPU: 4870 512mb from Visiontek
MB: Asus P8Z68-V
PS: Corsair 1050
Ram:16gb G-skill
Monitor: Asus 27" 1080p, 60hz refresh rate, 2 MS

The MSI 280 is on sale at the moment for $200 after a mail in rebate.

It seems that I should be ok with the 280 (7950 boost) card, but is the extra $100 dollars worth it in performance for other games?

My primary games to be played are: Splinter Cell Conviction & Splinter Cell Blacklist for my YouTube channel. I want 1080p,Ultra settings,Anti Aliasing is not a big deal with frame rates between 45-50.

no way! The R9 280 can be overclocked to R9 280X performance anyways, but the 280X can be OC'd further (in case someone says that back). For $100, defiantly not worth it, get the R9 280!

Is MSI I reliable company? I don't know what are the great brands now. The Asus,Sapphire,XFX, Gigabyte are around 40-50 bucks.

The Visiontek was and is my 1st card. (Bought in 2008) I am not even sure if it was a good brand then, but it last me this long.

yes, MSI is a great choice. Their Twin Frozr cooler is very good, and MSI are doing more budget friendly prices, a great reason to go for them.

you will, that card can be just as good as the 280X with an overclock. For $100 more for the X version, it just isn't worth it. That's a 50% higher price for an under 2-3% difference if you do a reasonable overclock.

checked out the links, the 7950 does perform quite well. Better as the resolution increases, thanks to it's greater Vram @ 3GB.
