How to connect phone and ADSL modem at the same time

Hi everyone.
I have ADSL broadband at my home and I have a UTStarcom WA3002G4 wireless router.
The thing is that whenever the phone starts ringing, I have to switch off the router, but if I have some download or so running, that's interrupted (I know about download managers, so don't tell me that).
How can I have a configuration such that I can use my phone and modem at the same time?
I bought an ADSL splitter, but it doesn't seem to work. I connected the "line" jack to one of the wall phone ports, the ADSL jack to the router, and the "phone" output to a landline phone, but the noise is still there.
I'd really like to discover some kind of main hub so that I could install this there and stop worrying about it, since I have multiple landline phones at my house, and I don't want to switch off the modem at a bad time.

Do you know how I can find where the line enters?
All I see are phone jacks in my house which I connect wires to.
How about I buy 3 filters for each landline phone in my house? Will it work? I really don't know how this is supposed to really work; all I understand is that the frequencies are different, and the splitter splits the signal in two.

One filter per phone definitely works. You sometimes get a speed boost with a master splitter, though.

If you've got an overhead line, it's pretty easy. If it's underground, look around the sides of the house for a conduit that goes up the wall and then goes into a box, then into the house. Exact construction depends on country.
