I am trying to build a rig for architectural and structural design. It will run software like Autodesk (AutoCAD, Robot Structural Analysis, Revit, Inventor), Graitec, Nemetschek (AllPlan, SciaEngineer) and maybe ANSYS.
Now, this will not be a high budget rig, it will have something like 16GB of RAM, Nvidia Quadro k600, 2 SSD in raid 0 and a 2 TB WD for storage.
What do you guys think, should i go for Xeon of I7. I have to mention that the computer will run for about 51 weeks out of 52 in a year and there will be no gaming on it; strictly professional.

I would go for the Xeon for no other reason than the fact it's cheaper. You would not notice the performance difference between the two outside of benchmarks. Just remember that the 1240v3 has no igpu. Go for the 1245v3 if you want the igpu.

Also, the Haswell refresh Xeons are out now too so check them out. 1231v3, 1241,v3, 1246v2, etc...

Xeon is known for its server level reliability, I own a server with a Xeon, and it has been nothing but stable the whole way through. haven't restarted the system in a month, and it's been stable the whole time.

This could be a noob question, but what is the difference between Haswell and Haswell refresh ?

The Haswell refresh all get a small clock speed bump (100mhz) and I'm pretty sure Intel reworked the internal thermal paste to operate just a tad cooler.

Unfortunately i am from Romania. Xeon's E3 - 1241;1246 are not available here yet, so i am going to have to go with the Xeon E3 - 1240 v3

From what I've seen, the Haswell Refresh does have more effective thermal paste/materials, however I believe the base clock speed improvement is 0.5 GHz (from 4770k to 4790k).

It is +500 mhz for the 4790k only. All of the rest of the refresh models are +100mhz or +200mhz
